It seems that makers are having a hard time hitting the right price for their new smartphones – a problem that will only get worse as the memory shortages start to affect production.
We’re not there yet, but last week’s poll shows that Realme missed the mark with the 16 Pro and 16 Pro+. At least the latter has a shot, given the right promotional discount.
While the Realme 16 Pro+ scored pretty low, a good number of people are willing to have a second look after the price falls to more reasonable levels. As we noted in our review, the Pro+ is a solid phone, but it costs more than the models that it is competing against – many feel that those other phones are better value for their money.

Interestingly, the 8MP ultra-wide camera caught the most flak – the Pro+ is just too expensive to have an 8MP sensor on board, even if it’s in the ultra-wide module (which some see as the least important camera). Not one commenter had anything bad to say about the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.
The Realme 16 Pro may be cheaper, but it also loses some important hardware, so the value for money equation is still off balance. Again, people hammered the 8MP ultra-wide camera, while the Dimensity 7300 Max chipset didn’t even get a mention.

This suggests that Realme nearly had the right formula – it’s just that it went too far with the price savings on certain components. That can’t be helped now, but the price of the two models can certainly come down. Even then, it seems that only the Realme 16 Pro+ will be getting any attention.
